Whooping Swan

I was lucky to find a swan family in Otanmäki bird basin in Kainuu a day after the shortest day of the year.

Hide

Has been lately many things to do and less time to take photos. When visiting Otanmäki bird basin in early May I did not find many birds but took a picture of the hide.

Curlew in the morning sun

While waiting  in a hide to take photos from displaying black grouses a curlew made a nice presentation against the rising sun.

Thursday Theme “kaksoisolentoni”

According to Wikipedia “kaksoisolento” refers to look-alike person but is much more complicated than that.   I found one in my galleries.  Not exactly but a little.

Black Grouse Courtship Ritual

I retired from 1st of May and found myself on the 2nd in the forests of Kainuu in a hide on a swamp to photograph and record mating rituals of Black Grouse.

Siberian Jay

Siberian Jay is a symphatetic bird found in old forests in Lapland.  Birds are not shy and very curious.   They were five around me when I took this picture in Inari.
